The amazing journey of the Ravensmead Ladies football team’s debut season ended with a silver medal last weekend, October 3rd, 2026, when they lost to the more experienced Trinitarians Ladies, who ended their season with a trophy for winning the NSLFA Knockout Competition, beating Ravensmead by 5 goals to 1 in the final.
Ravensmead Junior Club Chairperson Randall Heynes, issued a statement to pay tribute to the ladies’ historic achievement.
RAVENSMEAD AFC LADIES — WHAT A SEASON! By Randall Heynes
"As our season draws to a close, we can reflect on a year filled with many highs and lows for Ravensmead AFC. One of the biggest highlights, however, was the introduction of our Ladies Team. Their journey started with many challenges, with the majority of the ladies being first-time footballers.
Basic football skills, as well as the rules of the game, had to be taught from the ground up, and our coaches certainly had their work cut out for them!
But what stood out most was the willingness of the ladies to learn, improve and never give up. Even when faced with much more experienced and competitive teams, they continued to show up, put in the effort and fight until the final whistle.
The ladies finished 7th out of 8 teams in the league, but their biggest achievement came in the Northern Suburbs Local Football Association (NSLFA) Knockout Competition. In their very first season, they made it all the way to the Cup Final!
Unfortunately, they fell short against a strong Trinitarians team, but walking away with a silver medal in their first-ever season is an achievement that everyone at Ravensmead AFC can be incredibly proud of.
To our Ladies Team — congratulations! You have laid the foundation for something special, and we are extremely proud of each and every one of you.
Looking ahead to next season, we hope to grow our numbers and encourage even more ladies to take the step, join the team and become part of the Ravensmead family. With more players, more experience and the lessons learned this season, we look forward to seeing the team become even more competitive.
To our coaches and management, thank you for the time, effort, patience and hard work you have put into building this team and getting them to where they are today. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed.
This is only the beginning. We’re definitely coming back stronger next year.
From everyone at Ravensmead AFC, well done, ladies! You have made us proud.
