It started raining softly and Lucky cursed silently. He picked up the pace and started jogging. He was in pretty good shape, considering that he barely had the time to work out seriously.

Whitey’s cabin was situated in a particularly dense part of the Knysna forest. It had been built more than a 100 years ago and used to be a hunting lodge. When the new, democratically elected administration discovered it, they turned it into a holiday lodge for staff.

When Whitey eventually found out about it, he paid a handsome bribe to the right people for him to legally and quietly take ownership of the lodge. No one was allowed near it whether it was occupied by Whitey or not.

“Fuck ‘em,” Whitey thought. Why should he give all that money away, and why should he give his own money away in the process? “Dink hulle ek is jas?” he asked rhetorically.

The rain started to fall a bit harder. The cabin was warm and cozy, the fire place crackled and sizzled, spreading heat beyond the bedroom.

In the bathroom Themba was excited and overjoyed. Whitey was seldom romantic. But tonight, for some reason he was being so sweet and attentive. He had even bought Themba very expensive, sexy lingerie for tonight. Themba read his vibe correctly and had brought along essential bath oils as well as luxuriant massage oils. He was planning to spoil Whitey tonight.

Whitey lay spread out on the bed completely naked. He was chewing on a piece of biltong and sucking on a beer while giggling from time to time at a silly show on the telly. Every now and then he would stroke himself in anticipation of Themba’s return from the bathroom.

He allowed Themba the indulgence of taking such a long bath because he also needed time to process the coming effects of his decision not to distribute the money as he had agreed to.

War was coming, he knew that, but he decided that he did not give a fuck. He would fight them all and create chaos and he would survive, like he always did.

He also decided that he equally did not give a fuck about the politics and the plight of the Coloured people. “Why should I help them, no one fucking helped me,” he thought to himself.
