FIRST TIME HERE? NO PROBLEM – START AT THE BEGINNING – WARNING YOU WILL BECOME ADDICTED TO THE STORY.
Inside, Ouma allowed her OCD to run rampant and cleaned every inch of the house over and over, mindlessly muttering unintelligent things to herself. Jenny lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, she had not eaten since Whitney’s initial disappearance.
At the back of the house, in the Wendy House, Justin was oblivious to the world as he lay in a drug-induced haze of an alternate reality, which was a million miles away from what was actually going on.

When Elaine walked into Jenny’s room, she saw a slight flicker of life in her eyes as Jenny recognised her. Jenny sat up slowly, wiped away the tears on her cheeks and attempted a smile. But Elaine could not contain her own tears, she hugged Jenny and they both began to weep uncontrollably. Rage, sadness, and a deep, excruciating pain, found slight release though the hug.
“It will be okay,” Elaine whispered to Jenny. Jenny just held on to her, not saying anything.
An hour later Elaine emerged onto the street. Her team had set up a public address system and had erected a raised platform for her to address the crowd. The press corps were ready.
“This is the last straw,” she said softly. The crowd were eerily silent.
“This must never happen again,” she continued. “Whitney is my child, she’s your child, she is every mother’s child, she is every brother’s sister, every sister’s sister, every granny’s grandchild, every father’s daughter.” Her voice was slowly getting louder…
“What will you do people?” The crowd became restless, muttering responses. “What will you do to stop this from happening to your child, your sister, your grandchild?” The crowd’s murmurs became louder. “Will you continue to vote for a government that does not care about your children?”
“No!” responded the crowd.
“Will you continue to vote for a government that will not protect your children by providing more policing and eradicating the gangs?”
“No!” The response was louder.

“Will you continue voting for a government that will not give you back the land that was stolen from your forefathers? While rich people live in posh neighbourhoods and you have to suffer in overcrowded hell holes like this… Will you continue to vote for them?
“No!” the crowd roared back in a frenzy.
“Whoever committed this horrific atrocity is himself a victim of years of ongoing inhumane living and conditioning, and it has to end now. It has to end now; do you hear me people?”
“We hear you Elaine,” the people roared back even louder.
Jenny leaned against her doorframe and listened to Elaine and the crowd. She felt something stir inside her for the first time since Whitney disappeared. She did not know what it was, but she knew that she would live, she knew that Whitney wanted her to live.
The media coverage of Elaine’s visit to Jenny was unprecedented. It was not only covered by every single local news outlet; it also made the news on several international news channels.
Johan felt more and more confident that his ultimate objective of political control in the Western Cape would be achieved.
